I’ve been introduced to the world of #IRC from one of my friends. What is IRC you asked? Below is a quick summary of what Wiki describe it;
“Internet Relay Chat (IRC) is an application layer protocol that facilitates communication in the form of text. The chat process works on a client/server networking model. IRC clients are computer programs that a user can install on their system. These clients communicate with chat servers to transfer messages to other clients. IRC is mainly designed for group communication in discussion forums, called channels, but also allows one-on-one communication via private messages as well as chat and data transfer, including file sharing.”
Think of it as the grand-daddy of Skype, YM Messenger, Lync where everything is as it says, is text only. While it was confusing to use at first, but after sometime, I got familiar with the features and commands.
It was big in the late 90’s and till today, there are still users who uses it. Tho right now, most of the users I chat with are above 30yrs old. 🙂
But that’s not a problem for me for age is just a number. And I do enjoy talking to guys (and sometimes gal – well there’s more guys than girls in IRC but more about that later) who’s older than me.
